{"id":21535,"date":"2022-05-05T11:05:11","date_gmt":"2022-05-05T15:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=21535"},"modified":"2022-05-05T11:05:11","modified_gmt":"2022-05-05T15:05:11","slug":"intern-summer-program-teaching-intern-urban-resource-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2022\/05\/05\/intern-summer-program-teaching-intern-urban-resource-center\/","title":{"rendered":"INTERN: Summer Program Teaching Intern, Urban Resource Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JOB DESCRIPTION<br \/>\nJOB TITLE: Summer Program Teaching Intern<br \/>\nDIVISION: Economic Empowerment Program<br \/>\nREPORTS TO: Fab Lab Program Manager<br \/>\nJOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time; Seasonal ( Temporary)<br \/>\nPOSITION OVERVIEW<br \/>\nThe Urban Resource Center is seeking undergraduate and graduate college students interested in exploring<br \/>\nthe field of teaching to intern at the Economic Empowerment Programs\u2019 Fab Lab and support the Summer<br \/>\nProgram for High School Youth.<br \/>\nThe Urban Resource Institute (URI), a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization established in 1980, operates<br \/>\nshelter, legal and job training programs for domestic violence victims, residential and vocational programs for<br \/>\nindividuals with developmental disabilities, and residential programs for homeless families. With a $67 million<br \/>\nannual budget with over 600 staff, URI promotes safety, justice, health, and independence for vulnerable<br \/>\nindividuals and families residing in New York City. The goal of URI\u2019s Economic Empowerment programming is<br \/>\nto support its clients in reaching their educational and vocational goals and move toward economic<br \/>\nindependence.<br \/>\nThe Urban Resource Institute\u2019s Economic Empowerment Program is launched a Fab Lab in 2021, a digital<br \/>\nfabrication lab for children, youth, and adults to play, create, learn, mentor, and invent. The original Fab Lab<br \/>\nprogram was created with a grant from the National Science Foundation, which now has over 1800 Fab Labs<br \/>\nworld-wide. The goal of the Economic Empowerment Center\u2019s Fab Lab is to support homeless youth, including<br \/>\nyouth survivors of domestic violence, in their healing process through using technology and creativity as a<br \/>\nbasis for stability and growth. This lab\u2019s intention is to inspire careers in STEM through students\u2019 hands-on<br \/>\nexperience with digital fabrication tools- a field that has historically been less available to the communities<br \/>\nthat URI serves. The Teaching Intern will report directly to the Fab Lab Program Manager, will assist with the<br \/>\nLab\u2019s Summer Program work directly with the youth clients on the innovative curriculum and support the<br \/>\nphysical operations of the Fab Lab. The program will be held as 2 individual cohorts of approximately 15<br \/>\nstudents. Session 1 runs July 11 to July 29th and Session 2 runs August 8th to August 26th.<\/p>\n<p>POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION &amp;amp; ESSENTIAL SKILLS<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Support and contribute to the Fab Lab curriculum for high school aged youth with a trauma-informed lens.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Assist in leading classroom instruction of STEM activities designed around digital fabrication, career<br \/>\npathways, and technology workshops, including lessons for 1:1 support of clients.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Facilitate on a STEM curriculum utilizing the materials within the Fab Lab to be taught to high school<br \/>\nstudents living in URI\u2019s shelter systems, which include a trauma-informed approach.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Support in providing specific instruction on fabrication devices (laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.) to increase<br \/>\nthe throughput of student projects in a classroom setting.<\/p>\n<p>2 | Page<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Participate in training seminars conducted to enhance awareness of the client\u2019s needs.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Assist with field trips to museums and design studios to locations throughout New York.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Assist in completion of self- evaluations and program assessments for success for the program.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Assist in ensuring adherence to safe and effective use of the fabrication devices, monitor and maintain<br \/>\noptimal safety conditions, maintain equipment, and manage supplies and inventory.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Assist with daily set-up and breakdown of classroom lab space, including securing and organizing the<br \/>\nappropriate materials.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Attend meetings, as required, which are focused on relevant Fab Lab Program issues.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Other duties as requested based on department, program and\/or organizational needs.<\/p>\n<p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Must be between 19 \u2013 30 years of age, completed at least one year of college, and have plans to complete<br \/>\nthe college degree, or complete a college degree program in the year 2022<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Maintain or have graduated with at least a 2.5 G.P.A.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Must be able to make a full commitment to all 39 dates of the internship schedule.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Ability to be flexible and adaptive and adjust to changing priorities and conditions to keep the program<br \/>\nflowing.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Some relevant experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse team, maintaining a healthy work<br \/>\nenvironment for staff that encourages professionalism, respect, equality, diversity and continuous<br \/>\nimprovement.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Demonstrated commitment to education and youth empowerment is a requirement.
