Curator of Media Arts
\nMuseum of the Moving Image (MoMI) seeks a Curator of Media Arts to join its curatorial team.
\nThe Curator of Media Arts will be a key collaborative partner for developing and implementing
\nexhibitions, public programs, and publications that support the Museum\u2019s mission.
\nThe successful candidate will possess deep and wide-ranging knowledge of both
\ncontemporary and historical media-based art, and a track record of organizing innovative,
\nengaging exhibitions and programs for a broad audience. The position requires excellent
\nwriting and organizational skills and a desire to work collaboratively across departments. This
\nis a full-time exempt position, which reports to the Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs.
\nMuseum of the Moving Image advances the understanding, enjoyment, and appreciation of the
\nart, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media by presenting
\nexhibitions, education programs, significant moving-image works, and interpretive programs,
\nand collecting and preserving moving-image related artifacts.
\nDuties and Responsibilities:
\n\u2022 Working with the Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs and the Executive Director,
\nenvision and realize an approach to exhibiting and collecting media-based art that
\ncomplements the overall mission of the Museum;
\n\u2022 Conceive and organize exhibitions or installations, which includes developing
\nrelationships and maintaining communication with artists; writing exhibition text;
\ncollaborating with collections and exhibitions staff on logistics, planning, and installation;
\nand adhering to deadlines;
\n\u2022 Collaborate on the development of education and public programs related to exhibitions;
\n\u2022 Work with staff to shape a schedule for exhibitions and public programs;
\n\u2022 Collaborate with staff, as needed, to realize long-term projects;
\n\u2022 Work with development team on grant applications and other fundraising activities;
\n\u2022 Participate in the development and stewardship of the Museum\u2019s collection of
\ntime-based media art;
\n\u2022 Develop and write exhibit catalogs and artist monographs, as required;
\n\u2022 Develop, produce, and moderate ongoing artist talks and other public programs;
\n\u2022 Maintain internal communication with all Museum departments as required;
\n\u2022 Other administrative and curatorial tasks as assigned.
\nJob Requirements:
\n\u2022 B.A., M.A. or Ph.D. in Art, Film\/Media Studies or a related field a plus;
\n\u2022 A strong record of organizing exhibitions and public programs;<\/p>\n
\u2022 Demonstrated research capabilities, with a sophisticated understanding of the moving
\nimage as an art form, and an innate intellectual curiosity;
\n\u2022 Proven success in collaborating with a diverse population of colleagues, guest curators,
\nand other industry professionals;
\n\u2022 Strong organizational skills; ability to set priorities, yet maintain flexibility in order to
\nrespond quickly to new opportunities;
\n\u2022 Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
\n\u2022 Minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience required.
