{"id":21848,"date":"2022-10-19T12:38:57","date_gmt":"2022-10-19T16:38:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=21848"},"modified":"2022-10-19T12:38:57","modified_gmt":"2022-10-19T16:38:57","slug":"job-open-call-adjunct-professor-for-creative-coding-undergraduate-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2022\/10\/19\/job-open-call-adjunct-professor-for-creative-coding-undergraduate-course\/","title":{"rendered":"JOB: Open Call: Adjunct Professor for Creative Coding undergraduate course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Open Call:<br \/>\nAdjunct Professor for Creative Coding undergraduate course<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The New Media and Digital Design (NMDD) program at Fordham University is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to teach two sections of a Creative Coding course using p5.js in the Spring 2023 semester.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">These sections meet at Fordham\u2019s Lincoln Center (Manhattan) campus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Section 1: Mondays 6:00PM &#8211; 08:45PM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Section 2: Tuesdays 2:30PM &#8211; 05:15PM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Spring 2023 semester at Fordham University begins on January 17th.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The typical undergraduate student on this course has no prior programming experience or knowledge, and is not intending to go into the web programming field. The existing syllabus (open to change) focuses almost entirely on the use of p5.js to learn basic coding concepts such as variables, loops, graphics, and analyzing sound data, and connect them to current debates in the culture of coding.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We are seeking candidates who possess:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A terminal degree or equivalent professional\/academic\/creative experience<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Proven working knowledge of p5.js, JavaScript, HTML\/CSS<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Additionally the following are preferred:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Experience teaching undergraduate and\/or graduate courses<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Experience using ML5 to engage in machine learning to images and video (e.g., PoseNet, Handpose)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Experience using front-end web toolkits\/frameworks such as Bootstrap, MaterialUI, or uikit, etc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Interest in teaching additional courses in their field for the NMDD program<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ability to propose and (re)design courses in an effort to support their program in advancing its curricular goals<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Applicants who meet the above criteria are invited to email the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A current CV<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A cover letter with an addendum which contains<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Brief explanation of their teaching philosophy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A link to a portfolio of their relevant work (that makes use of JavaScript)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A list of undergraduate\/graduate courses taught along with descriptions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">A link to examples of student work (optional)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Please send the above information to: Catherine Katsafouros at <a href=\"mailto:ckatsafouros@fordham.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ckatsafouros@fordham.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">WORKING AT FORDHAM<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Fordham University offers a competitive rate of pay and adjunct instructors are invited to join the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents non tenure-track faculty at the university.
