Part Time Freelance Visual Designer (Web)<\/p>\n
We are looking to hire a part time visual designer on a
\nproject-based freelance retainer basis to complement our small
\ninterdisciplinary team of strategists, designers, and programmers. A
\nmore permanent role may be considered as our relationship develops.
\nTelecommuting is a possibility, but you must be able to available to
\nattend meetings in our Union Square office two to three times a week.<\/p>\n
Purpose is an international team based in New York that builds
\ncutting-edge social and political movements. Our principals David
\nMadden and Jeremy Heimans co-founded GetUp.org =96 an Australian online
\npolitical movement that is now larger than all Australia=92s political
\nparties put together and www.avaaz.org=
\n\/en\/, the world=92s largest online
\npolitical community with more than 3.3 million members (a partnership
\nwith MoveOn.org).<\/p>\n
Purpose is currently advising advocacy groups and progressive
\ncompanies around the world and is also incubating new issue-based
\nmovements. We=92re a new, unusual and evolving combination of an agency
\nand a home for political and social entrepreneurship. Most recently
\nwe=92ve launched http:\/\/livestronga=
\nction.org, a movement platform
\ndesigned to raise awareness around the fight against cancer.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
-Design the visuals for websites and emails based on campaign objective=
\ns and client branding specifications=20
\n
-Translate wireframes, sketches, and concept documents into smart desig=
\nn solutions and user-centric interactions
\n
-Design prototypes and mock ups to demonstrate proof of concepts
\n
-Visualize data in provocative, easy to understand ways to move users t=
\no take action on issues
\n
-Style Powerpoint\/Keynote presentations, print documents, and other rel=
\nated collateral as needed
\n
-Work closely with the Purpose team of strategists, designers,
\nand programmers to ensure that designs are delivered effectively and
\nremain true to concept<\/p>\n
Requirements:<\/p>\n
-Bachelors or equivalent in visual\/graphic design or web media
\ndesign, or equivalent work experience (MFA or related degree a plus)
\n
-Ability to work iteratively on producing uncluttered,
\nvisually striking, action-oriented web designs based on clients=92 brand
\nimage and style guidelines
-Highly developed skill and sensitivity in t=
\nypography, composition, color theory, and photography use and manipulation
\n
-Flexible, responsive, and with excellent oral and written
\ncommunications skills for interfacing with clients and the Purpose
\nCampaigns team
\n
-Three to five years experience designing launched web sites, experienc=
\ne designing for print and related collateral a plus
\n
-Fluency in CSS, HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash
\n
-Familiarity with Drupal CMS and Javascript\/jQuery a plus
\n
-Awareness and passion for social and political issues<\/p>\n
