\nPosition: Summer STE(A)M School Site Manager<\/p>\n
Job Description: The School Site Manager is responsible for leading Beam Center\u2019s on-the-ground
\npresence during an intensive summer program at one of 8 school sites throughout NYC (Manhattan,
\nBronx and Queens). This program will serve recently arrived ELL (English Language Learners)
\nelementary and middle school students in grades 3-8. In this program. NYC Public School TESOL
\n(English proficiency specialists) teachers will collaborate with Beam Staff and a team of Program
\nAssistants composed of CUNY(City University of New York) and High School Interns to lead students as
\nthey design and prototype hands-on projects in STEM, art, building, electronics and digital media. Site
\nManagers will support teachers as they lead students through the program which will take place in up to
\n12 classrooms organized by grade in each school site. There will be two Site Managers in each school
\nsite who will support the classroom teams composed of TESOL Teachers and Program Assistants. Site
\nManagers will report to the Beam Center Program Director. The Site Manager helps to prepare and
\nsupport teachers as they implement this program through the following tasks:
\n\u25cf Communicate and facilitate the program design, structure, and intended outcomes
\n\u25cf Facilitate and support the operation of a student-driven prototyping environment
\n\u25cf Provide on-site logistical, technical, and content support to teachers and students
\n\u25cf Facilitate and support teachers and students use of tools to build projects
\n\u25cf Support the training of teachers prior to the start of the program
\n\u25cf Manage site material and tool usage
\n\u25cf Coordinate the efforts of Program Assistants
\n\u25cf Communicate regularly with Beam Center staff regarding the site\u2019s progress and needs
\nSite Managers will receive training in: hands-on disciplines (electronics, model-making, mechanics,
\nfabrication & digital design); learning through collaborative hands-on projects; and Beam Center\u2019s design
\n& prototyping process.
\nQualifications: The ideal candidate for this position is experienced in a variety of making activities
\n(electronics, woodworking, craft, sculpture, mechanics, etc.) and has a knack for figuring things out.
\nSpanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required. Applicants should be comfortable working
\nwith diverse groups of people (both youth and adults) and leading these groups in various activities
\n(design, building, troubleshooting, etc.). Applicants should be highly organized and adaptable; they need
\nto come prepared and be able to improvise when the situation demands it. They should be clear
\ncommunicators and understand the value of collaboration. Familiarity with NYC Public Schools is a plus.
\nEmployment Status: This is a part-time temporary position (32 hours\/week). Dates of employment are
\nMonday, June 12th – Tuesday, August 22nd, Monday-Thursday 8am-4pm.
\nCompensation: This position is compensated at an hourly wage of $27\/hour.
