Reel Sisters season spans from November 23\u2019 to November 24\u2019 (with in-person<br \/>\nfestival events occurring primarily in October and virtual events in November).<\/p>\n<p>Reel Sisters\u2019 interns will see firsthand the ins and outs of producing a NYC-based film festival.<br \/>\nInterns will use their analytic and creative skills to pre-screen films, support RS social media and<br \/>\nawareness-building efforts, and work alongside industry professionals in film\/cinematography,<br \/>\nnon-profit social impact, and art.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\n\u25cf Pre-screen and rate film submissions (historically RS receives nearly 600 submissions<br \/>\nper year!)<br \/>\n\u25cf Provide assistance at the RS events based on individual knowledge and skills (technical<br \/>\nassistance, production assistance, ushering\/assisting guests, photographing\/filming<br \/>\nevents, etc.)<br \/>\n\u25cf Provide general support to the Reel Sisters production\/coordinating team with<br \/>\nfestival-related tasks as needed<br \/>\n\u25cf Support in the outreach and awareness building for the festival via digital marketing<br \/>\nplatforms (social media, email, newsletters, etc.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><br \/>\n\u25cf Currently a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program (or graduate students)<br \/>\nmajoring in a relevant field (film &amp; video production, film studies, photography, etc.)<br \/>\n\u25cf Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion<br \/>\n\u25cf Able to work 10-15 hours per week remotely and in person (must be based in NYC and<br \/>\navailable to attend in-person events as needed with prior notice)<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to work alongside a diverse team and simultaneously work toward many<br \/>\ninitiatives at once<br \/>\n\u25cf Self-starter with the ability to efficiently manage multiple assignments with the<br \/>\nsupport of the Reel Sisters and African Voices teams<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><br \/>\nReel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival &amp; Lecture Series is the first Academy Qualifying Film<br \/>\nFestival for narrative shorts devoted to women of color! The festival\u2019s status is a game changer<br \/>\nfor women\u2019s access to Oscar consideration in the Live Action Shorts category. Reel Sisters\u2019<br \/>\nAcademy qualifying status gives women of color a path to the Oscar consideration list and<br \/>\nopens the door for all women directors. It is a milestone for women directors who rarely get<br \/>\nnominated by the Academy Awards for Oscar-worthy films.<\/p>\n<p>Reel Sisters is the first Brooklyn-based festival devoted to supporting films produced, directed,<br \/>\nand written by women of color. Since 1997, the festival has been enriching the city with over<br \/>\n3,000 films by women of African, Caribbean, Latino, Asian, Indian, and Native American<br \/>\ndescent.
