ALUMNI<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Retooling: Art, Ecology, &amp; Climate Adaptation<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lightning Presentations&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Climate Week NYC<br>Presented by MESH_ARTS in collaboration with <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.biobatartspace.com_&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=slrrB7dE8n7gBJbeO0g-IQ&amp;r=0Umh6M8SX4T_phclHawyU8HL5QBYZMCqrP5icxjCXO4&amp;m=a97D651Ud1phFEuxkjsw3qetTLEQ1_8vyrp5IhoxNq3UXxHeK-lfl56oGO7mCpLi&amp;s=y5-zH90xrRNAHMQaAGinInlQATI1Ti2wN-qJvJltEj0&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>BioBAT Art Space<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What happens when art shifts from representing ecological problems to actively participating in how we understand, navigate, and respond to them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MESH_ARTS invites <strong>current NYU \/ CUSP students and alumni, across disciplines,<\/strong> to propose 15-minute lightning presentations sharing projects, research, collaborations, experiments, prototypes, methodologies, or works in progress that demonstrate <strong>ecological tools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are especially interested in practices that move beyond representation toward tool-making, facilitation, education, experimentation, collective knowledge, and ecological infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside NYU CUSP students and alumni, the event will feature presentations from selected artists whose practices embody these approaches, creating a generative, community-oriented exchange that reflects diverse forms of ecological tool-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What might an ecological tool be?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A tool might be a physical object or prototype, but it might also be a method, system, workshop, platform, performance, mapping practice, material experiment, community process, speculative proposition, or way of gathering people and knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We welcome projects that consider how creative practice can work with natural forces, scientific research, technological systems, communities, and environments to generate new forms of participation, understanding, and action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Projects might engage questions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How can artistic practice function as ecological infrastructure?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What happens when the artist shifts from producer to facilitator, educator, researcher, collaborator, or infrastructure builder?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can art, science, engineering, design, and technology generate new forms of environmental knowledge?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What kinds of tools can help communities understand, experience, or respond to climate change differently?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can creative practice translate complex ecological systems into accessible forms of public engagement?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What new forms of collective knowledge and civic imagination can emerge through interdisciplinary collaboration?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Should Apply?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This open call welcomes current NYU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as NYU alumni, and faculty, from all schools, programs, and fields of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We particularly encourage interdisciplinary approaches spanning art, design, poetry, architecture, environmental studies, engineering, science, technology, urban studies, performance, media, public policy, and related fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>You do not need to identify as an artist to participate.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Projects may be completed, ongoing, speculative, or in development. Individual and collaborative projects are welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Format<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selected participants will each give an in-person <strong>15-minute lightning presentation<\/strong> as part of an afternoon of short presentations, conversation, and interdisciplinary exchange.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than a formal academic paper, we encourage participants to introduce a project, question, experiment, methodology, or proposition that can open a larger conversation about creative practice and ecological action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About <em>Retooling<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During Climate Week NYC, MESH_ARTS, in collaboration with BioBAT Art Space, presents <em>Retooling: Art, Ecology, &amp;
