The artists<br \/>\n> and designers in the space work with electronics, architecture,<br \/>\n> painting, video, and sound. Mr. Forman’s work involves kinetic and<br \/>\n> robotic sculpture that integrates interactive technology into<br \/>\n> traditional media. The studio space has a small wood and metal<br \/>\n> working shop in it with a mini-lathe, table saw, miter saw,<br \/>\n> bandsaw, drill press, router, sanders, and assorted hand tools.<br \/>\n> Qualified interns get free access to the shop and all tools. We<br \/>\n> are conveniently located on 29th St. & 7th Avenue around the corner<br \/>\n> from the subway and near Chelsea art galleries, art supply stores,<br \/>\n> Home Depot, Whole Foods, etc.<br \/>\n><br \/>\n> Eric Forman [http:\/\/www.ericforman.com] is a New York based artist<br \/>\n> and professor whose work focuses on interactive installations and<br \/>\n> robotic sculpture, especially hybrids of natural and synthetic<br \/>\n> forms and emergent behaviors. Most of this is presented in the<br \/>\n> context of fine art, but some is functional design, including<br \/>\n> responsive, kinetic, and occasionally subversive architectural<br \/>\n> environments and objects. Eric teaches all aspects of digital<br \/>\n> media, specializing in interactive electronics for artists. He<br \/>\n> currently teaches in the graduate Digital+Media department at RISD,<br \/>\n> and has also taught at Columbia, NYU, Parsons, and MICA. He<br \/>\n> received his Masters from ITP at Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, and<br \/>\n> his B.A. from Vassar College where he developed his own<br \/>\n> interdisciplinary program called The Philosophical Ramifications of<br \/>\n> Computer Technology. He has over 20 years of professional<br \/>\n> experience with digital media, including programming, animation,<br \/>\n> web design, video, and tangible electronics.<br \/>\n><br \/>\n><br \/>\n><br \/>\n> This is a summer position to start but could develop into something<br \/>\n> longer. Tme commitment is very flexible and can be as little as 2<br \/>\n> half-days per week, or much more if desired. Although this is an<br \/>\n> unpaid position, meals and transportation will be covered, and<br \/>\n> qualified interns will get free access to the studio shop and<br \/>\n> tools. You will be doing a combination of research, organization,<br \/>\n> and hands-on production, with the opportunity for creative input,<br \/>\n> and will learn a lot about “physical computing”: microcontrollers,<br \/>\n> sensors, circuit design, robotics, programming, building<br \/>\n> methodologies, and sustainable design.<br \/>\n><br \/>\n><br \/>\n><br \/>\n> We are looking for 1 or 2 interns who are technically minded,<br \/>\n> organized, creative, and thorough, and are interested in<br \/>\n> interactive electronics. Physical computing, architecture,<br \/>\n> engineering, industrial design, and fine art students, or recent<br \/>\n> graduates, would be well suited. Prior experience in one or more<br \/>\n> of these fields is desirable, but is NOT required as long as you<br \/>\n> are comfortable with technical subjects, enjoy learning, and can<br \/>\n> pursue projects further on your own initiative.<br \/>\n><br \/>\n><br \/>\n><br \/>\n> Please send a brief description of yourself and your experience,<br \/>\n> skills, and interests, along with pictures of your own work or<br \/>\n> links to portfolios to: internship@ericforman.com.
