Job: Research Assistant (Java Programmer) in Collaborative Cross-modal
Interaction<\/p>\n
We are looking for a Research Assistant to undertake Java programming
for accessible interfaces. The Collaborative Cross-modal Interaction
project (CCmI) will explore how to design support for collaboration
where participants have differing access to modalities. Specifically,
the project will look at collaboration between visually impaired users
and sighted users in the context of editing diagrams in the software
engineering workplace. The deliverable for this project is an
open-source software tool that enables collaborative diagram editing
between visually impaired and sighted users.<\/p>\n
The project draws on, and extends existing award winning research and
development at Queen Mary, University of London. The results of this
project will broaden inclusion in the workplace and give the UK an
advantage in the area of assistive technology.<\/p>\n
This project is part of the Interactional Sound and Music Group at
Queen Mary which explores new ways of encountering sound from
interactive art to real time data sonification. The group is part of
the Centre for Digital Music (C4DM) and the Interaction, Media and
Communication research group (IMC). The C4DM is a world-leading
multidisciplinary research group in the field of Music & Audio
Technology. Since its founding members joined Queen Mary in 2001, the
Centre has grown to become one of the world’s leading Digital Music
research groups. The IMC research group is an internationally
recognised interdisciplinary research group that works on human
interaction, multimodal interaction, creativity and engagement and
science outreach.<\/p>\n
Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) is one of London and the UK’s
leading research-focused higher education institutions. Amongst the
largest of the colleges of the University of London, Queen Mary’s 3000
staff deliver world class degree programmes to our 13,000 students,
and undertake high quality research across a wide range of subjects in
Humanities, Social Sciences and Laws, in Medicine and Dentistry and in
Science and Engineering.<\/p>\n
The post is full time for 18 months (starting immediately or as soon
