The School of Art, Media and Technology at Parsons the New School for\u00a0School of Design is looking for an Assistant Professor of Communication\u00a0Design. I’m an Assistant Professor at Parsons in CDT (Communication\u00a0Design Technology) and I can say AMT – School of Art, Media and\u00a0Technology is a great place to work! In particular we’re looking for\u00a0people with Interaction Design and\/or Motion Graphics experience.\u00a0Thought I’d spread the word. Full-time faculty gigs in NYC are pretty\u00a0rare, but Parsons has been hiring quite a bit lately.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities:
\nParsons The New School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks\u00a0applicants for a renewable term faculty appointment at the rank of\u00a0Assistant Professor of Communication Design, with teaching assignments\u00a0within undergraduate and graduate programs (including BFA Communication\u00a0Design, AAS Graphic Design, MFA Design + Technology, and the proposed MS\u00a0in Visual Communications [Broadcast, Interactive, and Graphic Design]).\u00a0This appointment will be within the School of Art, Media and Technology\u00a0at Parsons.<\/p>\n
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in the practice, history and\u00a0theory of Communication Design and related genres, with specific\u00a0attention paid to the areas of interaction design and\/or motion\u00a0graphics. Candidates must show evidence of innovation in their\u00a0pedagogical approaches and be forward-thinking about what skills and\u00a0literacies are now required to adeptly respond to complex of global\u00a0conditions.<\/p>\n
The Assistant Professor of Communication Design will teach undergraduate\u00a0and graduate studio-based courses within the School of Art, Media, and\u00a0Technology and students from a variety of disciplines across Parsons.\u00a0S\/he will hold regular office hours, and participate in extracurricular\u00a0activities on a regular basis (e.g., critiques, review panels, thesis\u00a0supervision, independent study, Parsons\/New School committees, etc.).\u00a0The Assistant Professor is expected to continue to participate actively\u00a0and with distinction in professional, creative or scholarly work.<\/p>\n

Minimum Qualifications:<\/p>\n
The ideal candidate should have:<\/p>\n
– A terminal graduate degree or demonstrated equivalence in\u00a0Communication Design and\/or related genres
\n– Active\/current professional practice or experimental creative\/critical\u00a0scholarship.
\n– Thorough knowledge of digital media and digital production\u00a0environments, including both still and time-based media
\n– An understanding of the implications of design and fine arts practice\u00a0in relationship to broader social, cultural, economic, scientific and\u00a0technological forces (an engagement with the contemporary art\/design of\u00a0Asia, Africa, Europe or Latin America and\/or African Americans, Latinos,\u00a0or Native Americans is highly desirable)
\n– At least one to three years teaching experience at the university\u00a0level, coupled with a proven track record of working well with people\u00a0from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional training and aesthetic\u00a0sensibilities
\n– Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
\n– Good management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines,\u00a0communicate and motivate effectively<\/p>\n
