Candidates must show evidence of innovation in their\u00a0pedagogical approaches and be forward-thinking about what skills and\u00a0literacies are now required to adeptly respond to complex of global\u00a0conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The Assistant Professor of Communication Design will teach undergraduate\u00a0and graduate studio-based courses within the School of Art, Media, and\u00a0Technology and students from a variety of disciplines across Parsons.\u00a0S\/he will hold regular office hours, and participate in extracurricular\u00a0activities on a regular basis (e.g., critiques, review panels, thesis\u00a0supervision, independent study, Parsons\/New School committees, etc.).\u00a0The Assistant Professor is expected to continue to participate actively\u00a0and with distinction in professional, creative or scholarly work.<\/p>\n<p>Please see www.parsons.edu for a full description of the School of Art,\u00a0Media, and Technology and its current programs.<\/p>\n<p>This position is dependent on budget approval from the Office of the\u00a0Provost.<\/p>\n<p>Minimum Qualifications:<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate should have:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A terminal graduate degree or demonstrated equivalence in\u00a0Communication Design and\/or related genres<br \/>\n&#8211; Active\/current professional practice or experimental creative\/critical\u00a0scholarship.<br \/>\n&#8211; Thorough knowledge of digital media and digital production\u00a0environments, including both still and time-based media<br \/>\n&#8211; An understanding of the implications of design and fine arts practice\u00a0in relationship to broader social, cultural, economic, scientific and\u00a0technological forces (an engagement with the contemporary art\/design of\u00a0Asia, Africa, Europe or Latin America and\/or African Americans, Latinos,\u00a0or Native Americans is highly desirable)<br \/>\n&#8211; At least one to three years teaching experience at the university\u00a0level, coupled with a proven track record of working well with people\u00a0from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional training and aesthetic\u00a0sensibilities<br \/>\n&#8211; Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills<br \/>\n&#8211; Good management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines,\u00a0communicate and motivate effectively<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Qualifications:<br \/>\nJob Family: Parsons The New School for Design<br \/>\nSpecial Instructions to Applicants: Applicants for faculty positions\u00a0must apply on-line using the streamlined faculty application on The New\u00a0School human resources website http:\/\/careers.newschool.edu.
