For January 2009, V2_Lab is looking for a HARDWARE DEVELOPER to enhance
\nits team four days\/30.4 hours a week. V2_Lab is the aRt&D (art research=
\n
\nand development) department of V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media.<\/p>\n
V2_ was founded in 1981 and is currently based in central Rotterdam. V2_
\nis an interdisciplinary center working in the field of art, media and
\ntechnology with a special emphasis on research. It therefore has many
\ncollaborative ties to institutions in various sectors (art, universities
\nand colleges, business). V2_Lab conducts research into the relationship
\nbetween art, technology, media and society and makes its projects
\naccessible through presentations. Over the past 25 years at V2_, a
\ngrowing Dutch and international public has been able to get acquainted
\nwith prominent artists, theorists and projects at the intersection of
\nart, media and technology through exhibitions, presentations, symposiums
\nand performances. V2_ currently has 24 staff members working on a
\npermanent basis.<\/p>\n
*About the Position<\/p>\n
*Tasks:
\nThe hardware developer will occupy an important position on the V2_Lab
\nteam. He or she will work with software developers, designers,
\nproduction staff and artists. The hardware developer will design and
\nrealize technological solutions to be used in a diverse range of
\nartistic projects. The work is varied and challenging in every respect.<\/p>\n
V2_Lab's areas of focus in the near future will include wearable
\ntechnology and augmented reality. This means the hardware developer will
\nwork on the development and application of, for example, wireless
\nsystems, networks and small wearable embedded-Linux computers with
\nsensors and actuators.<\/p>\n
*Requirements:
\nThe hardware developer will possess experience and skills in the areas of:
\n
\n– Hardware and electronics design, simulation and implementation using
\nNational Instruments Circuit Design Suite (previously Electronics
\nWorkbench Multicap\/Multisim and Ultiboard);
\n– Design and production of single-\/double-sided print plates (in SMT) in
\nsmall quantities, for prototyping;
\n– Design and programming of small systems with modern microcontrollers
\n(ARM, AVR, PIC) and ARM-Linux systems;
\n– Modern inter- and intrasystem communication protocols (e.g. USB,
\nIEEE1394, MIDI, DMX, RS232, SPI, I2C, LVDS, I2S, etc.);
\n– Sensor technology and A\/D converters;
\n– Machine control and control engineering.<\/p>\n
In addition, knowledge of the following programming languages and
\nenvironments is desirable:<\/p>\n
– C \/ C++
\n– Python
\n– MaxMSP & Jitter<\/p>\n
And experience with the following programs is advantageous:<\/p>\n
– Adobe Illustrator
\n– OmniGraffle
\n– Inkscape
\n– MS Visio.<\/p>\n

V2_ is opgericht in 1981 en momenteel gehuisvest in het centrum van
\nRotterdam. V2_ is een interdisciplinair centrum op het gebied van kunst
\nen (media)technologie met speciale aandacht voor onderzoek. Het heeft
\ndaardoor vele samenwerkingsverbanden met instellingen uit verschillende
\nsectoren (kunst, universiteiten, hogescholen en bedrijfsleven). V2_Lab
\ndoet onderzoek naar de relatie tussen kunst, technologie, media en
\nsamenleving, en maakt de projecten via presentaties toegankelijk. Een
\ngroeiend nationaal en internationaal publiek heeft in de afgelopen 25
\njaar bij V2_ kennis kunnen maken met prominente kunstenaars, theoretici
\nen projecten op het snijvlak van kunst, media en technologie door middel
\nvan tentoonstellingen, presentaties, symposia en performances. Bij V2_
\nwerken momenteel 24 medewerkers in vast dienstverband.<\/p>\n

*Taken:
\nDe Hardwareontwikkelaar neemt een belangrijke plaats in binnen het team
\nvan V2_Lab. Hij of zij werkt daarin samen met softwareontwikkelaars,
\nontwerpers, productiemedewerkers en kunstenaars. De hardwareontwikkelaar
\nhoudt zich bezig met het ontwerpen en realiseren van technologische
\noplossingen die worden toegepast in uiteenlopende kunstprojecten. Het
\nwerk is in alle opzichten afwisselend en uitdagend.<\/p>\n
V2_Lab richt zich de komende tijd onder andere op wearable technology,
\nen augmented reality. Dit betekent dat de hardwareontwikkelaar zal
\nwerken aan de ontwikkeling en toepassing van bijvoorbeeld draadloze
