V2_Lab is the aRt&amp;D (art research=<br \/>\n<br \/>\nand development) department of V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media.<\/p>\n<p>V2_ was founded in 1981 and is currently based in central Rotterdam. V2_<br \/>\nis an interdisciplinary center working in the field of art, media and<br \/>\ntechnology with a special emphasis on research. It therefore has many<br \/>\ncollaborative ties to institutions in various sectors (art, universities<br \/>\nand colleges, business). V2_Lab conducts research into the relationship<br \/>\nbetween art, technology, media and society and makes its projects<br \/>\naccessible through presentations. Over the past 25 years at V2_, a<br \/>\ngrowing Dutch and international public has been able to get acquainted<br \/>\nwith prominent artists, theorists and projects at the intersection of<br \/>\nart, media and technology through exhibitions, presentations, symposiums<br \/>\nand performances. V2_ currently has 24 staff members working on a<br \/>\npermanent basis.<\/p>\n<p>*About the Position<\/p>\n<p>*Tasks:<br \/>\nThe hardware developer will occupy an important position on the V2_Lab<br \/>\nteam. He or she will work with software developers, designers,<br \/>\nproduction staff and artists. The hardware developer will design and<br \/>\nrealize technological solutions to be used in a diverse range of<br \/>\nartistic projects. The work is varied and challenging in every respect.<\/p>\n<p>V2_Lab&#39;s areas of focus in the near future will include wearable<br \/>\ntechnology and augmented reality. This means the hardware developer will<br \/>\nwork on the development and application of, for example, wireless<br \/>\nsystems, networks and small wearable embedded-Linux computers with<br \/>\nsensors and actuators.<\/p>\n<p>*Requirements:<br \/>\nThe hardware developer will possess experience and skills in the areas of:<br \/>\n<br \/>\n&#8211; Hardware and electronics design, simulation and implementation using<br \/>\nNational Instruments Circuit Design Suite (previously Electronics<br \/>\nWorkbench Multicap\/Multisim and Ultiboard);<br \/>\n&#8211; Design and production of single-\/double-sided print plates (in SMT) in<br \/>\nsmall quantities, for prototyping;<br \/>\n&#8211; Design and programming of small systems with modern microcontrollers<br \/>\n(ARM, AVR, PIC) and ARM-Linux systems;<br \/>\n&#8211; Modern inter- and intrasystem communication protocols (e.g. USB,<br \/>\nIEEE1394, MIDI, DMX, RS232, SPI, I2C, LVDS, I2S, etc.);<br \/>\n&#8211; Sensor technology and A\/D converters;<br \/>\n&#8211; Machine control and control engineering.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, knowledge of the following programming languages and<br \/>\nenvironments is desirable:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; C \/ C++<br \/>\n&#8211; Python<br \/>\n&#8211; MaxMSP &amp; Jitter<\/p>\n<p>And experience with the following programs is advantageous:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Adobe Illustrator<br \/>\n&#8211; OmniGraffle<br \/>\n&#8211; Inkscape<br \/>\n&#8211; MS Visio.<\/p>\n<p>\n*Desirable Characteristics:<br \/>\nThe hardware developer will be interested in and well informed about<br \/>\ndevelopments at the intersection of art, technology, science and culture<br \/>\nand therefore able to communicate effortlessly with experts in these<br \/>\ndiverse fields. Hij of zij werkt daarin samen met softwareontwikkelaars,<br \/>\nontwerpers, productiemedewerkers en kunstenaars.
