About the Position:<\/p>\n
New York Public Radio\u2019s Digital Media team seeks a lead developer with proven skills as a team
\nleader and a passion for public media, cool technology, and a mission to engage our audience in
\na \u201cconversation\u201d across new and emerging platforms. This person will be the senior developer for
\nNYPR\u2019s portfolio of products and applications and websites \u2013 including wnyc.org and wqxr.org \u2013
\nas well as the systems architect and manager of a team of front- and back-end developers.<\/p>\n
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Lead our team in planning and developing a scalable and robust open-source systems
\narchitecture for NYPR\u2019s sites and products; turn non-technical requirements into tools that
\nsolve problems; and make technical and strategic recommendations to senior management<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Work with NYPR digital operations team and content leaders to design solutions for
\npublishing a wide range of news and cultural programming, building communities, and
\ncapturing audience data<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Oversee all development workflow, assign tasks and priorities to a team of up to five front-
\nand back-end developers, review work and ensure a healthy and efficient development
\nprocess<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Lead the continued development and maintenance of NYPR\u2019s content management system
\nand associated applications, including mobile apps<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Using Agile and similar development methodologies, take leadership role in maximizing
\noperational flexibility and team productivity<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Mentor developers on development, design and architecture best practices<\/p>\n
\u2022<\/p>\n
Develop and maintain technical documentation on applications, processes and workflow<\/p>\n
Qualifications:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Bachelor’s degree required
\n\u2022 Requires minimum of five years professional experience in software development, preferably
\nas a lead developer and manager
\n\u2022 Proficiency in such tools as Javascript, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, bash, Python, Django
\n\u2022 Familiarity with version control systems like bazaar, hg, or git
\n\u2022 A strong ability to teach oneself new skills with minimal hand-holding
\n\u2022 Prior experience managing developers required
\n\u2022 Knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies including AJAX, social networking, DHTML, mobile and
\nemerging digital interfaces
\n\u2022 Requires ability to manage successfully multiple priorities and to navigate demands of
\nassociates with competing needs
\n\u2022 Exceptional communication skills\u2014both oral and written\u2014with an impressive reputation
\nfor building and maintaining relationships with people at all levels of an organization, across a
\ndiverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational and social backgrounds
\n\u2022 Requires the intellectual and emotional depth, maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal
\nskills to work effectively and\/or interact with the other digital staff, executives at NYPR, colleagues
\nand vendors as needed<\/p>\n
