We empower people to transform<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice,<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; promoting public engagement and policy change.  www.witness.org<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Program Interns at WITNESS<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; *Regional support for our Programs in Africa and the Middle East,<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Asia, Europe and Former Soviet Union, or Latin America and Caribbean<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; *Program management support<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; *Video Advocacy Institute support<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Regional Support Interns: WITNESS will be working with roughly 12<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; core partners in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the USA and Europe\/<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; former Soviet Union.  Program interns at WITNESS support the<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; program staff in their ongoing work with locally-based human<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; rights partner organizations in one of the regions listed above.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Depending on where we are in a partnership development\/training\/<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; production\/ advocacy cycle in a particular region or with a<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; particular partner, a program intern may be involved in a range of<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; research, production support and outreach\/advocacy activities.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; These include:<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Researching issues\/contacts and background information for<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; campaigns and potential partners<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Supporting preparations for trainings conducted by Program staff<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Logging videos received from our partners around the world and<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; providing feedback on this material<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Helping to shape a Rights Alert short video production<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Researching distribution channels, particular human rights issues<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; and campaigns<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Supporting distribution and outreach around a particular video<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; advocacy campaign<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Handling administrative responsibilities including maintenance of<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; contact databases and files<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Participating in weekly staff meetings<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Program Management Intern: We are also looking for an intern to<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; support our Program Director in managing the Program Department.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; The position will provide opportunities to gain experience in NGO<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; management, as well as incorporate elements of the Regional<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Support intern role in terms of preparing for trainings,<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; developing training materials and supporting on research and<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; administration.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Video Advocacy Institute Intern: Within the program department,<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; WITNESS will also be looking for an intern to support preparation<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; for our Video Advocacy Institute (VAI).  In 2007, WITNESS hosted<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; the inaugural VAI. The VAI is an intensive two-week course that<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; trains 30 human rights defenders from 24 different countries to<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; successfully integrate video advocacy into their campaigns. The<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; VAI Intern will work with the VAI Coordinator to prepare for the<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; 2009 VAI. This will include:<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Assistance the Coordinator throughout the application process with<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; the administrative responsibilities<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Assisting with the visa process for the participants<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Supporting all logistical preparations for 2-week long training<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Assisting the Coordinator to develop and design pre-institute<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; materials<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Curriculum development<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Participating in weekly staff meetings<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; For more information please visit: www.witness.org\/vai<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; All interns are expected to spend between 20-30% of their time<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; engaged in administrative support to program and office-wide staff.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Potential interns should be undergraduates or graduate students.<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; We look for a focus in studies on human rights, international<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; relations, history, political science, and area studies (e.g.,<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; with particular regional concentration). Candidates should have:<br \/>\n&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; A background in human rights and\/or video<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Relevant regional experience, either academic or practical<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Previous NGO experience (experience abroad is a plus)<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Strong language skills relevant to the region (especially Arabic,<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; Bahasa Indonesia, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, as well as<br \/>\n&gt;&gt; French and Karen) are key to most program internships.
