A &#8220;General Degrees in=<br \/>\n course&#8221; lists the AA\/AS, BA\/BS,&nbsp;MA\/MS, M. Phil. and Ph. D. as well as =<br \/>\nthe Professional Degrees (BPS, B&nbsp;Tech., MPS, DPS, and DA). Sec. B. &#8220;Spe=<br \/>\ncialized Degrees in course&#8221;&nbsp;lists the multitudes of very specific degre=<br \/>\nes, including the MFA.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the State of Ne=<br \/>\nw York, this subsection defines what would&nbsp;be the only difference betwe=<br \/>\nen the two.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The point that CUNY is recognizing one =<br \/>\nas terminal rather than the&nbsp;other, in this case, is not simply a matter=<br \/>\n of bureaucratic&nbsp;bookkeeping; rather, someone made this decision. Perha=<br \/>\nps the reasoning&nbsp;may be inferred somewhere in this distinction. That is=<br \/>\n, however,&nbsp;supposition. Since there is no federally recognized base sta=<br \/>\nndard on&nbsp;the question of terminal degrees, states, and associations, an=<br \/>\nd&nbsp;schools, are left on their own to decide. It also reads: &#8220;The curriculum is devoted to teaching the practice an=<br \/>\nd theory that emerge from the convergence of new media technologies.&#8221; M.F.A.=<br \/>\n programs in New Media, Interactive Media and Design and Technology already =<br \/>\nexist. Their curricula includes theory and practice and a minimum of a two-s=<br \/>\nemester&nbsp;thesis paper and project. They are not intensive programs.&amp;nbsp=<br \/>\n;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Despite the fact that ITP is not an art, design o=<br \/>\nr engineering program, graduates from the program often look for jobs in the=<br \/>\n field of art and design and hold positions as creative directors, art direc=<br \/>\ntors, designers, interactive designers, producers researchers and visiting i=<br \/>\nnstructors or&nbsp;adjunct&nbsp;professors in art or design schools. In thes=<br \/>\ne fields the M.F.A. The only exceptions&nbsp;exist&nbsp;in the fields of applied arts such as=<br \/>\n creative writing, graphic design, fine arts, video art and interactive desi=<br \/>\ngn, where an MFA is the terminal degree.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For =<br \/>\nexample, an MFA right now is the terminal degree for game design and game ar=<br \/>\nt&nbsp;because there is no PhD in game design. Typically a terminal Master takes more time than a no=<br \/>\nn-terminal Master to complete (1-2 vs. 2-3 years) Some academic art institut=<br \/>\nions even use the MA (Master of Art) degree (30 credits) as a prerequisite f=<br \/>\nor final acceptance into MFA candidacy. An MFA also requires the&nbsp;comple=<br \/>\ntion&nbsp;of certain amount of credits in art history and&nbsp;philosophy.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>MFA is usually a requirement to teach art and design=<br \/>\n at the rank of assistant&nbsp;professor.
