Laura Garcia-Barrio

ITP Alumni, Class of 2005

Born in Barcelona, on the Mediterranean sea, she graduated in Journalism and Communication from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and worked for traditional media before going digital. Her experiences managing and developing professional virtual communities and online resource centers, as well as a graduate degree in Digital Multimedia Journalism, opened her appetite to expand her technical skills and broaden her knowledge on technology and interaction design.

At ITP she programmed microcontrollers, web and mobile applications, shot and edited videos, discussed the social impact of technology and human computer interaction. Out of her interests in information visualization, social software and mobile applications she conceived and developed a graphical mail client for mobile devices.

After an internship at the Digital Media Department of the American Museum of the Moving Image, Laura has worked as an interaction and user experience designer in New York City, creating web and mobile applications for big brands, international telecom service providers and technology manufacturers. She currently works at Google.

Laura has presented her work at Siggraph 2005 and in 2007 she won a Bronze Lion Award at the Cannes Advertising Festival.
