Affective Geography is a project that builds a picture/map of your day using the text messages (SMS) you send to it. These simple map like drawings are initiated when you send specific messages(commands) to the application via your cell phone. As the day passes and you send more messages to the system the drawing or map is appended with appropriate visual representations. You can think of it as a visual log of your feelings and thoughts. The resulting map of your day is geographically incorrect and does not necessarily tie geographic places with feelings or emotions. It instead draws a more subjective and personal expression of your time through the day. At the end of each day the map is archived and a new map is initiated at the beginning of next day.

This project is from the class- ubiquitous computing for mobile devices with Dennis Crowley. This is an extension of my interest in mapping peoples movements and urban usage combined with low tech SMS communication and its visualization.

I am not sure. But maybe people interested in psycogeography, mapping and logging.

At the show instead of each individual having his/her own map show on screen I would instead customize the application to receive any incoming messages(commands) to append to the already existing map on screen. It would be a map more of all the show visitors and their feelings,thoughts etc.
A user would be given clear instructions of the various commands he/she could SMS to the system in order to append to the map/drawing on screen. Once the message is received the appropriate mark/visual/line would be appended to the existing drawing. This would be instant feedback and the sender would see his/her message effect the drawing.

low tech is good enough. i haven\'t broken anything yet. a common visual language for emotions/feelings and thoughts is challenging to create.
