Tangible Dots are designed for a new video experience in the form of a transformable screen, bringing a new era of video technology that transcends the fixed, rectangular screen. A particular arrangement of the magnetic objects, called “T-dots,” determines the shape and dimensions of the video, giving users the freedom to physically affect the proportions of the projected image by moving the T-dots. The “tangible” screen becomes a playground in which the diverse visual contents are given new possibilities, elevating the level of human-to-computer interactivity.

The Dots are expected to provide the easiest way to adjust the shape of an image projected on a surface in an architectural space where projectors are frequently used, such as a gallery or a museum. In such spaces it is possible to create vibrant, immersive atmospheres by a discrete arrangement of the T-dots. In addition, that the Dots output data in XY coordinates as well as an on/off switch signal means the projection may also be used as a game space where players operate a Dot as they would a mouse.

Tangible Dots are a user-friendly do-it-yourself tool that allows users to freely broaden the range of its application with their own intuitive needs and desires for a tangible video experience.
