Benji Canning-Pereira

In this project I am trying to bridge the gap between the physical and imaginative world using Augmented Reality as a fashion collection.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer-generated imagery. In its own sense, fashion is a type of augmented reality. Fashion can change one’s appearance, augment shapes, and sizes, and can highlight the human figure. Clothing can conceal the body or reveal it. Fashion allows for creativity, imagination, a statement, an exploration. What if we could extend the boundaries of fashion from a physical fashion form to a fantasy and thus create a bridge between the ‘real’ and augmented worlds? In this project, I will highlight the ‘real’ and showcase the ‘augmented.’

How does it work? Wearing the fiducial Marker in clothes (Code that hosts AR), the runway model will walk up to the camera on the runway.
As the model approaches the camera, the view will be projected onto a large screen behind. The camera will be connected to a computer which hosts the AR code. As a result, only in the projection will the AR illustration come to life. After the audience has seen the projection, the model will continue down the runway to model the ‘real’ outfit.

In the end, this wearable technology can further bridge the gap between the physical and imaginative world. It will allow for imagination run free (not limited by gravity, logic, biology, and physicality) and all in all, introduce a new realm into the fashion world.

Audience
Wearable Technologists. Fashion Followers. Trend Seekers.

User Scenario
From "description":

Wearing the fiduciary marker in the clothes' pattern (Code that hosts AR), the runway model will walk up to the camera on the runway.
As the model approaches the camera, the view will be projected onto a large screen behind. The camera will be connected to a computer which hosts the AR code. As a result, only in the projection will the AR illustration come to life. After the audience has seen the projection, the model will continue down the runway to model the ‘real’ outfit.

Implementation
AR Fiduciary Markers, Fabric, black/white, lined patterns.
