A website using audio stories, photos, and mapping to explore personal Brooklyn histories of disappearing locations.

My project is a digital exploration of community memory and history through mapped audio narratives and photos. The focus is on places from the storyteller's past that no longer exist or if they do, not in the same way.

Background
I conducted interviews and explored the Oral History Collection of The Brooklyn Historical Society to gather audio material. Then I photographed the sites that were mentioned and mapped them through Google Maps.

Implementation
Users can explore audio narratives and photos tagged by neighborhood, place, and year. They can also submit their own stories through an upload form on the site and/or via the voicemail box set up on the Twilio system.
