RREMI is a networked musical organism that receives musical input and creates its own unique musical output based on its ever changing networked structure. The rhizomatic network that makes up REMI’s “brain” is a software structure modeled after the functioning and growth patterns of biological rhizomes, more specifically the symbiotic mycorrhizal relation between fungi and plant roots that form the vital nutrient pathways for the majority of the planet’s land-plant ecosystems. The manner in which REMI processes sound is an analog to this complex biological process, thereby giving voice to an emergent form of ecological intelligence.
