I AM

Sophie Laffont

Emails, like letters, are an archive of our lives. I AM is a series of printed books that tells the story of one person's life by algorithmically mining their email.

Background
Reading and Writing Electronic Text -Natural Language Processing algorithms - Looking into computational linguistics - Sentence structures and speech patterns - Identifying how people define themselves -Researching how books are made, what kind of paper, size, ink -Also, looking at non-traditional books such as pop-ups and pushing the medium. -Researching the works of many writers, digital artists, and anyone working with text analysis and looking at how we define ourselves

User Scenario
I would I like a person to be able to go through their own inbox using the program I wrote with George King and create their own books.

Implementation
I am planning on writing a natural language processing algorithm that will mine through my emails in order to pull out relevant information. The point of the project is to look at my past in order to learn from my experiences and gain a better understanding of my life. This will result in three printed books. One book will contain every email in which I wrote the words "I am", one book will contain every email in which I wrote the words "I think", and finally one book will contain every email in which I wrote the words "I feel." The verbs to be, to think, and to feel were chosen specifically because they are verbs we use to describe, define, and assert ourselves. The books will look like a minimal journal and be printed on beautiful paper.

Conclusion
That Oscar Wilde is always right
"Whenever everyone agrees with me, I feel that I must wrong."
