“Dibuja Tu Casa” (“Draw Your House”)

Sharon De La Cruz

“Dibuja Tu Casa” is a redesign of the intake forms used to gather information from unaccompanied minors crossing the Mexico/U.S. border, which is often traumatic for the young children.

Description

At the time the intake process occurs, most unaccompanied minors are in a traumatized state from their arduous journey. Their education, literary skills, and native language vary, which makes the 45-minute interview complicated and stressful for child and lawyer alike. This redesigned form uses game-like activities and playful aesthetics to gather information that will better represent the client in court. It takes into account the state of the client while still gathering the necessary quantifiable data. Using visual language inspired by art therapy activities, this redesigned form more sensitively gathers sophisticated responses.
