Profiles of the disposed

Natalia Cabrera

“Profiles of the Disposed” is an immersive installation that exhibits a process of collecting data from trash. With 3 VR experiences as main pieces, this project conveys an archeological point of view on waste and the archival uses of computational photography.<br />

Description

Under an archeological eye, trash becomes the epitome of the “we are what we consume” paradigm. Our garbage is highly personal and intimate, therefore the amount of information residing in it is of a great storytelling potential.

For “Profiles of the disposed” I collected the trash of 3 different people for period of 5 days each, then took every item and systematically measured, classified, photographed and 3D scanned them in a playful and somehow scientific way.

The result is an immersive installation that exhibits the process of collecting the data. Along with pictures and text, there are three VR experiences, where the user can virtually walk in a 3d land of each of the subjects’ trash and listen to the data gathered from each item found.
