Due to the increasing popularity of virtual reality, with a visual effects, animation and computer science background, I wanted to make a project combining interesting visual elements, player interactions and game design.

A VR project is most likely to be in a first-person style. From my research, even though many VR FPS games were made already, many of them either lack interaction, creativity or interesting visual feedback. I still wanted to keep the game structure as FPS but instead of simply shooting a gun, I wanted to design many more VR elements for players to attack, touch and feel with newly designed VR gestures. At first I was limited to my background story and can not think of many new interactions that can fit in, later I freed up my thinking by modifying it into a story with more science fiction elements. The target users will be general video game players and virtual reality enthusiasts. Once the players wins the game they will activate a surprise camera movement to give them a birds eye view of the whole virtual 3D playground.

Classes

Thesis

Ruudy X Liu A virtual reality game bringing players creative first person gameplay experience https://vimeo.com/165533770 Description Mad Space is a First-Person virtual reality game that brings players immersive VR game experience with the HTC Vive.
