A social game that uses friendly competition to encourage subversion of norms and disinhibited displays of diversion.
Description
Glitch Please! is a social, mobile game that promotes lowering inhibitions by encouraging players to subvert norms and make mischief.
The experience is simple; player 1 poses a challenge to either an individual or a group, and the other player(s) attempt to complete the challenge with a photo.
Challenges are sorted into 5 different categories to fit a variety of scenarios and contexts; indoor, outdoor, social, prank, and custom (where players can write their own prompts).
In the 1-on-1 gameplay, player 2 either succeeds or fails to complete the challenge based on player 1’s judgement. If they succeed, player 2 is rewarded with a visually glitched version of their challenge photo and +1 filter points. If they fail, they can try again.
In the group gameplay, player 1 chooses the photo that best completes the challenge. The winning player is rewarded with a visually glitched version of their challenge photo, +1 filter points, and gets to select and judge the next round’s challenge.
Filter points are accumulated to eventually unlock glitch filters at different levels. Once a player accumulates enough points to unlock a certain filter, they are able to use the filters to take glitched photos anytime in app.
Successful (1-on-1) and winning (group) photos are saved in a photo library in app.
The key nuance of the game is the subjective and mutable nature of success. The challenge prompts are abstract and open to interpretation; in order to succeed it is necessary appeal to the tastes of player judging the round. The flavor of the game is entirely defined by the people playing.
