Recurring Concepts in Art

In this project a user is given a set of headphones to block out ambient sound. They step into a large box. The walls of the box inflate around the user, enveloping them in a hug. After 60 seconds, the hug is relaxed. This project is a conceptualization of the idea of "the spectacle" built for Georgia Krantz's Recurring Concepts in Art class.

User Scenario
One person steps up to Forever and steps up on a small box into the vessel hanging from the ceiling. The user wears noise silencing headphones. Once inside, Paul and Lily start inflating the box with manual pumps for 15 seconds. We then wait 10 seconds. We then deflate. The person exits. We will have a warning that this project is not recommended for those with issues with claustrophobia.

Conclusion
Get wood pre-cut for you. Order more paint than you thought you needed. Hanging a 300lb box from the ceiling is not impossible so long as you have carabiners, steel cable, thick bolts and a few friends to help lift.
