A quick but in-depth view of the current state of border barriers around the globe.

http://kylinsays.com/limbo/the-wall/

Description

World Border Barrier is a data visualization about the impact and relationship between border-barriers around the world.

A response to Trump's plan to build a wall, I tried to understand the true meaning and consequences of this wall. It started as a visual comparison between Trump's wall and Berlin wall, then I realized a bigger underlying issue is the history of people using border barriers for multiple purposes. By analyzing and visualizing data about this walls, this project hope to capture differences and similarities between different border barriers and present itself in an approachable yet in-depth way.

Bridging the US political divide through language.

Description

Biasaurus is a project consisting of two thesauruses. One red, one blue. One on the left, one on the right. Both thesauruses will generate synonyms using a machine learning algorithm that has been trained on a large body of text. The Red one will produce synonyms having only been trained on conservative leaning texts. The blue one will produce synonyms having only been trained on liberal leaning texts. This could essentially be used as an intra-language translation tool.

Dream Date is a speculative human intimacy simulation in VR

Description

Dream Date is an Oculus VR experience that trains you in the art of human interaction through guided tasks and physical, visual, and auditory feedback. Dream Date exists in a future reality where humans spend the majority of their time in VR; however, certain tasks (such as mating) still require IRL communication. To alleviate the anxiety that these encounters can cause, users can take a course that will teach them how to flirt with another human being. The experience is about four-five minutes long. It includes a mannequin outfitted with capacitive sensors that when touched trigger virtual animations. Optional heart rate monitor wearable for those who would like to get a sense of their physical reactions during the simulation.

A VR experience inside iconic Yellow Submarine that will take you back to the 1960s.

https://vimeo.com/194444489

Description

A Virtual Reality installation with a physical component. The DK2 headset will be transformed into a submarine periscope. Once the user puts the headset on, he will be transported to an underwater world. Through the submarine hatches, they will be able to see and listen to key moments from the 60s (hippies, flower power, civil rights movement etc). Using the digital periscope inside the submarine, the user can see a different perspective of that time.

Description

This project is a presentation of research about recycling coffee grounds. We are presenting the project as a survey that asks people about their daily coffee consumption habits and creates a data visualization about this.

We emphasize on which coffee shops around Tisch recycle and which don't, methods for recycling and the impact on the environment,

The president-elect has some nasty things to say about you. Follow @realdonal to find out.

Description

The current political climate has become much like a reality TV. Instead of watching substantive news about our government and people who are running it, we are stuck in the vicious cycle of cheap entertainment. Much like a reality TV, creating controversy is appreciated by the media and is given insane amount of coverage. The rise of Donald Trump can be linked to this phenomenon. He understood this and gave the media and the people what they wanted.

This twitter bot is a parody on the same. All the followers of the bot get constantly engaged in a reality TV like insulting and gossip by the bot.

Interactive 3D display of human anatomy

yuepingwang.com/atomu

Description

Atomu is a tangible interface that allows people to dissect and view human organs through physically manipulating the installation. The installation supports a life size human figure covered by deformable fabric, and the visual content is projected onto the fabric from behind. Twelve proximity sensors are also installed in the back of the fabric, and depending on how deep the user pressed into the fabric, the sensors send the depth data to Processing and alternates the projection of human organ section views with the corresponding depth.
This project investigates new ways to interact with virtual information in physical space. It integrates and overlays the digital “interface” on top of tangible experiences and spacial deformations.
