Description

In my project, I've decided to create a Mixed Reality (XR) experience for my audience by combining Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) together. As a traveler, I would like to experience different environments before I have physically been to a place. Thus, one of the intended goals of my project is to provide a convenient way for people to get a sense of different types of outdoor environments from the comfort of their own home. The outdoor environments featured in my project include both nature (such as the ocean) and urban (such as the park) sights. To achieve my intended goal, I've proposed an installation for a pair of smart-glasses that will hopefully exist one day in the future. The idea (or concept) behind my installation proposal is that people will be able to view everyday objects at home from a completely brand-new perspective by simply wearing the futuristic smart-glasses. The featured outdoor environments in this project are displayed in multiple virtual 3D spheres. These spheres are created by using 360° panoramas images taken at different places around the world. Each of them is attached to its related real-life object. When the audience walks into one of the virtual spheres, they will get a super immersive experience while being surrounded by the whole (360°) space. To put it in another perspective, they will be able to look around the space in all directions inside the virtual sphere. This immersive experience will not only come from the visual aspect but the audio aspect as well. In other words, people will also hear different types of sounds as they enter any of the spheres. For instance, when they walk into a sphere of Ocean, they will be hearing the sound of waves splashing in addition to being surrounded by virtual nature.

Description

Space-mapper car is a tiny car––less than 5×9″ large––that uses IR distance sensors to detect walls and objects in its surrounding area and map them out on screen. Using two N20 encoded gear motors, the car can accurately track its movement speed and angle and transmit them through serial communication to p5.js, which can use the information, along with the data from its 2 Sharp IR distance sensors, to gradually piece together a rough map of the space.

The user can choose between 2 modes, each curating a different interaction between the physical space and the on-screen map. In the first mode, the car will fill out a map of its surrounding space on screen, as described above. In the second, more entertaining mode, a path will be drawn on screen for the robot to follow, and a series of lines will be drawn parallel to the prescribed path. The user will have to place a series of objects along the car's physical path in order to match the on-screen map as best as possible. The two modes therefore allow for bi-directional interaction between the car's physical space and its on-screen replication; the physical space dictates the on-screen map in the first mode, and vice-versa in the second mode.

We invite users to our Building of moments. Space in VR where ‘Memory’ and ‘Imagination’ meets.

Kevin Lee, Hyunseo Lee

THE BUILDING
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33EJyZ3AkGg&feature=emb_title

Description

Most of the VR contents are focused on game and activity. Our priority is feeling and emotion instead. So we wanted to create secure space in the VR World. For us, the most secure space was in our memory. Sometimes, Space in our memory feels like a refuge. We wanted to exhibit this intact space to the public.

This is a experimental Art practice created based on the desire to express, the desire to have our own exhibition/meditating space, and our experience of traveling through solitude memories. The Building will show different path and possible future of VR technology for content creators and users.

Description

Can we be more than friends in VR? The practice of dating changes by time and the evolution of mediums, VR, as a new platform and medium, still leaves room for exploring. In this application, we would like to discover how can people share their intimacy and affection with other players through gestures and interactions. The venue includes a bar and a dance room, and each character is equipped with some basic social features, such as “buy a drink”, “flirt”, “activate social bubble”. Through this project, we would like to expand the horizon of digital intimacy and the application of social Virtual Reality.
