Abstract

As an artist, I have always had a fascination with graffiti. I loved the idea of using graffiti as a medium for self-expression. This thesis idea started when I moved to Bushwick two years ago. I was captivated by the graffiti commissioned by the Bushwick Art Collective. These stunning creations aren't just art; they're a testament to marginalized voices finding expression, reclaiming public spaces, and empowering artists. This thesis project allowed me to learn about the neighborhood, navigate Bushwick's graffiti scene, and add my virtual tag through Augmented Reality animations.

Technical Details

I used Adobe Photoshop to create the layers for each graffiti. I used Adobe After Effects to create the animation from those layers. I used a target image and .gif file that contains the animation. I upload it to Bridge at Artivive as a creator. Layer the animation on top of the target image and post to Artivive. In order to see the complete piece, download the free Artivive app and scan the graffiti on your phone to have the graffiti pieces come to life.
