Abstract

Growing up, I was acutely aware of the power of the gaze. My parents, like many well-meaning guardians, often conveyed the judgments of others, inadvertently instilling in me a heightened sensitivity to their perceptions. This constant scrutiny influenced my every action, driving me to seek validation and approval in the eyes of others. But as I navigated the complexities of adolescence and adulthood, I began to question the nature of this gaze—is it a source of empowerment or restraint? A tool for self-discovery or societal conformity?
"Eyes on Me" is an interactive installation that delves into the transformative power of the gaze and its profound impact on our perception of self and others. Grounded in personal experiences of navigating the pervasive influence of the gaze in shaping identity, this project seeks to illuminate the complexities inherent in this fundamental human interaction.

By seamlessly blending personal narrative with cutting-edge interactive technology, "Eyes on Me" offers viewers an immersive journey into the intricacies of the gaze. Through a carefully orchestrated series of interconnected elements—including buttons, a flipbook mechanism, a camera, and a thermal printer—participants are invited to engage in a multifaceted exploration of observation and introspection.
