We’re building a secure, regulation-friendly payments platform where users can load funds into a flexible wallet—independent of traditional banks—for seamless, cross-currency transactions, without compromising accessibility or user control.

Project Description
The platform enables users to generate, send, and/or receive secure QR code tokens loaded with funds for global purchases when the QR code is scanned, or opt for a bank transfer. Users can also perform currency conversions within the app, redefining peer-to-peer payments with seamless, versatile transactions.
Technical Details
React Native (frontend), backend APIs built with Node.js which will integrate key modules such as KYC onboarding, bank linking (e.g. Plaid), QR-based payments, and internal wallet systems, all secured with AES encryption, tokenization, PCI compliance, and fraud detection protocols to meet financial regulations.
Research/Context
At its core, MounID is about reimagining peer-to-peer payments by enabling users to generate secure QR code tokens loaded with funds ahead of time or on the spot which are then ready for instant global transactions.
I started out by performing a market analysis for 5 leading fin-tech/payments platforms.
One insight stood out immediately — all of them required users to have the app installed to send or receive money. That felt limiting. I started wondering: what if the transaction could live in the QR code itself?
I made then made QR code experiments via javascript, which made me realize that QR codes were the best medium for this project, as they are:
- Platform independent
- Have Offline Compatibility
- Have Security & Traceability features
- And They Are Easy To Share
Based on my experiments and research, I showcased mock prototypes in Figma, to my ITP peers during our play test
User feedback highlighted the importance of including contextual toggles continually showing key information and using in-app language that felt familiar, casual, to build inclusivity and trust.
I used wireframes to map out in-app user flows and used AI to generate some tasteful color palette illustrations for visual inspiration.
