Between Light and Shadow is a series of layered artworks combining paper sculpture and projection mapping, where the interplay of static form and dynamic light captures the struggles and emotions of being a woman and/or an immigrant.

Project Description
"Between Light and Shadow" is a series of layered artworks that explore the emotional landscape of womanhood and immigrant identity through the interplay of paper sculpture and projection mapping. Each piece presents a dialogue between static material and moving image, creating double artworks where physical form and dynamic light merge and fracture.
The series unfolds in three parts. The first artwork uses the motif of hands reaching toward a figure, evoking the overwhelming desire to disappear as the figure blurs into the background. The second focuses on the gaze, with a face framed in a target-like shape, later surrounded by a ring of eyes through projection; this work captures the dual weight of oppressive scrutiny and high expectations. The final piece centers on shut mouths, rendered in high contrast, that are interwoven with metal wires that physically cage the forms; the projection and the use of inverse suggest that even as words attempt to break through, they are trapped, overpowered, or lost.
The use of negative space, high contrast, and dynamic layering allows viewers to experience these emotional states not just visually but physically, as shadows pass through and around the sculpted forms. By navigating the fragile state between light and shadow, this series invites reflection on visibility, vulnerability, resilience, and the ongoing struggle to claim one’s space and voice.
