Abstract

When entering virtual reality, it seems inevitable for us to bring our culture, experiences, race, and knowledge to this new world. We try to start over again and live the story we failed to have in real life by instantly being the virtual avatar, a new digital vessel for our escaping souls. Meanwhile, the story that mixed past memories and future conjunctures keeps us struggling, whether in the virtual world or in real life. Can we stop engaging in any of the stories, and solely stay alive in the moment? Leave behind our pronouns, free from the attachments of the material world, or even live without gravity. What's the ultimate true feeling of being one living existence? That's the start of being a Dynamic Self. “Dynamic Self: A star born in the Present” is a first-person VR experience formatted like a 3D picture storybook. The player is thrust into an outer space environment and gains the gift of gravity. They will explore the world guided by a rock, a flame, and a butterfly flapping its wings, which are elements referencing gravity, energy, and emotion. It’s a gentle story about regaining the meaning of being alive in a virtual fairy tale setting. Just like reading a picture storybook, this VR experience slows down the pace, giving the “Reader” time and freedom to explore the details of each virtual scene. Musical effects, textures of the virtual objects, characters, and plot are the common components every player would have in this virtual experience.
