If you’ve never designed a box or created a 3D object using the laser cutter before, this session will offer an introduction to creating simple boxes or enclosures. You can go on to apply these techniques to design a custom case for an electronics or lighting project, art piece, game piece storage, etc.

Fortunately, there are some online generators that simplify the design process, which we will review in this workshop. We will also go over considerations such as measuring and accommodating for kerf, various joint types, hinges, materials, etc.

We will be using Illustrator in this class, but our focus will be on walking through these box generators:

Even if you don't have Illustrator, you can export your files suitable for use on other vector graphics editors such as the free and open source Inkscape.
