✨ Tor is an open-source, privacy-centric tool that's used around the world to access websites and share information securely. It's often conflated with "the dark web," so we'll debunk that and dive into how Tor actually works and why it's a useful tool.

✨ We'll use Tor as a way to think about how power is centralized in different aspects of internet infrastructure. This workshop isn't specifically focused on personal privacy best practices, but we'll touch on what Tor offers for more anonymous web browsing and censorship circumvention.

✨ Together, we'll use Tor Browser to access websites over the Tor network and do some collaborative drawing and note-taking. I hope to demystify this one tiny piece of technology and leave you with excitement and a ton of questions about what kinds of internets we want.

✨ Also! This is a beginner-friendly workshop. I'd recommend bringing a computer to participate and having Tor Browser downloaded, if you have time beforehand.

This is the first part of two workshops exploring Tor and technology skillshare as an exercise in imagination. The second (more intermediate) workshop will focus on running a website from your own computer using Tor.
