Course Instructor Guide to the Start of Classes

Spring 2025 classes begin on 01/21/25. Please be sure to review the information below to prepare for your first class.

  1. Make sure you have a valid / active NYU ID Card. If your NYU ID Card is expired / if you have never been issued an NYU ID Card before, you will need to plan to make time to visit the NYU ID Card Center prior to the first day of class to get your ID Card.
  2. Access your Class Roster in Albert for your class roster, class schedule, and classroom location. Only students on the official Class Roster in Albert may attend class – there is no auditing of ITP / IMA NY classes.
  3. During week 1 (the add/drop period 7W1 session classes), weeks 1-2 (the add/drop period for 14W session classes), and weeks 1-8 (the add/drop period for 7W2 session classes), students are actively changing their class schedules in real-time at-will, so please expect and anticipate changes to your class rosters during this time.
  4. Students are permitted to make schedule changes through 01/27/25 at 11:59pm ET for 7W1 session classes (the 7W1 add/drop deadline), through 02/03/25 at 11:59pm ET for 14W session classes (the 14W add/drop deadline), and through 03/18/25 at 11:59pm ET for 7W2 session classes (the 7W2 add/drop deadline). On 01/28/25 (for 7W1), on 02/04/25 (for 14W), and on 03/19/25 (for 7W2), all class waiting lists will be purged from Albert, freezing enrollment, and leaving students with their enrolled courses only. We expect all course instructors to accommodate valid add/drop transactions made during this period, and to make necessary accommodations for late-enrolled students to participate in the class.
  5. Waitlisted students, who appear on the Class Roster in Albert, but who do not attend, may be removed for non-attendance, provided they did not provide advance notice to the instructor and Dante of a time-conflict with an enrolled course on their schedule.
  6. This is the only valid rationale for not de-enrolling a WL student for non-attendance (they should attend their enrolled course).
  7. We do not de-enroll enrolled students for not attending an enrolled class meeting during add/drop. Rather, this is treated as an unexcused absence. Repeated unexcused absences will become a grading matter, and these cases may be reported to Dante and George as they arise.
  8. Report to your classroom location as it is listed on your Class Roster in Albert. If you are unsure of where your class is located, you may contact Dante for assistance.

Other Considerations

Grading Bases for Our Programs

  • For (ITPG-GT) ITP graduate courses, students receive pass / fail grades.
  • For (IMNY-UT) IMA NY undergraduate courses, students receive letter grades (except for Code! / Code! 2).
  • For (IMALR-GT) IMA Low Res. graduate courses, students receive pass / fail grades.

Web Presence

Contact our group email helpdesk@itp.nyu.edu for help setting up an internal blog, Google site, or re-direct to a URL of your choosing (some instructors host their materials on Github or other platforms), or use NYU’s LMS Brightspace – all instructors have Brightspace access. The department does not enforce using one platform over another for hosting your course materials – this is entirely up to you!

Dates / Class Schedules / University Closures

In Spring 2025 we will have (1) University Holiday: Presidents’ Day on 02/17/25, in addition to Spring Break from 03/24/25 – 03/28/25, when no classes are scheduled to meet. We will have (1) Legislative Monday on 02/18/25, when classes meet according to a Monday schedule.

To see your list of actual class dates, by day of week, and duration (some courses are 7-weeks in the 1st half, 7-weeks in the 2nd half, 14-week-all-semester, or other irregular schedules) taking into account the University Holidays, see this page here.
