RESIDENT RESEARCHER

Andre Lira is a Brazilian-American multidisciplinary artist investigating the synergies between sound and light. His practice integrates 15+ years of music production experience with more recent research in lighting design for interactive installations.

Lira’s work, such as his ITP Thesis “Hover Craft“, primarily aims at democratizing the music creation process by developing systems to enable people of all ages and skill levels to perform music with body gestures, facial tracking, and more. He has exhibited pieces in New York and Milan and was a featured artist at DATLab’s annual TouchDesigner conference in NYC in 2025.

He holds a Master’s from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and a B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Northeastern University. Prior to ITP, he worked as a Senior Producer for various creative agencies in the music marketing space.

Outside of his academic pursuits, he can be found cycling through Brooklyn or traveling the world for his side gig of being a touring producer/DJ.
