RESIDENT RESEARCHER

Jiyou Park is a New York–based interactive media artist and researcher whose work explores the shifting boundary between technological objects and living beings. Working across interactive installation, physical computing, machine perception, light, and robotics, she creates responsive sculptural beings that look, listen, move, and form relationships with viewers.

Her recent work uses artificial and speculative beings to explore how relationships, belief, and care can give fabricated forms a sense of life and presence. Park is particularly interested in why some beings are dismissed while others are protected or revered.

Her work has been exhibited and presented at NIME 2026 in London, the National Science Museum in South Korea, and ARTECHOUSE NYC. Through the Xu Bing Space Art Residency Program, she developed an artificial life form aboard the SCA-2 art satellite in low Earth orbit.

Born in Australia and raised in South Korea, Park holds an MPS from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program and a BFA in Digital Media Design from Hongik University. As a Research Resident at ITP, she continues to investigate the ethics and hierarchies of aliveness.
