Yuliya Parshina-Kottas is an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program and Interactive Media Arts. She holds an MPS from NYU ITP and a BFA in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts. 

Yuliya is a visual journalist, information designer and 2D/3D animator who uses emerging technologies and traditional mediums to tell stories in digital and physical spaces. Her journalism work focuses on investigations of human rights abuses and disinformation as well as urgent topics in science, public health and climate change. Yuliya’s personal art practice explores themes of folklore and womanhood through illustration, animation and traditional crafts. She is passionate about interdisciplinary collaborations and empowering others to use visual storytelling for good. 

Yuliya spent 9+ years in The New York Times Graphics department where she reported, designed and produced visual and data-driven stories. Before joining The Times, Yuliya worked on large-scale museum exhibits, advertising campaigns and children’s animated series.
