Choreography, the art of arranging movements, is mostly associated with dance as a performing art form — but does it only exist in such an exclusive setting? In its essence, choreography deals with the progression of the relationship between the human body, movement, and space — all of which exist around us all the time. If only we understood where to place our attention in each moment, and moved with specificity, agency, and intent, we could continually experience choreography. In this class, we will (1) strip down the choreographic elements, dissect them, and observe them through everyday lens (2) experiment with rules of interactions inspired by our observations (3) design the algorithms to simulate possible outcomes (4) execute them with the class. The goal of the class is to render these seemingly everyday interactions to the conscious, turning them into choreographies. The class will take place in a studio for discussions, and in outdoor spaces for activities. All activities will be site-specific.
