RESIDENT RESEARCHER

Amelia Seungyeon Yang (b.1999, Seoul) is a Korean artist, designer, and creative technologist based in New York. She received a BFA in Design from Ewha Womans University (South Korea), where she developed a foundation in UX design, spatial design, and human-centered design methodologies. Her design background continues to shape the way she approaches technology—not simply as a tool, but as a material for crafting thoughtful, embodied experiences. Through fabrication, physical computing, digital fabrication, and interactive systems, she explores how design thinking can bridge conceptual ideas with tangible forms, transforming abstract human experiences into physical interactions.
Amelia earned her MPS from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and currently continues her research there as a Research Resident. At ITP, her practice expanded from designing interfaces and spaces to investigating the invisible relationships that emerge between people and the environments they inhabit. Working across interactive installation, fabrication, haptic technology, kinetic sculpture, and computational media, she combines vibration, light, movement, and tactile interaction to make emotional traces and subtle human connections physically perceptible. Shaped by her experiences of living between South Korea and New York, her practice reflects on how relationships are formed, accumulated, and transformed through space, revealing the quiet ways people leave emotional imprints on one another and on the places they share.
