Mary Mark is a New York-based multimedia artist and producer. Her work merges performance art, motion sensing, and generative artificial intelligence, and is rooted in academic and embodied research. She experiments with capturing and manipulating movement outside of the body and examines our relationship to virtual entities. Mary is an artistic director and producer at the World Bank’s Understanding Risk Forum, where she directs large-scale productions that explore the interconnectedness of resilience, disasters, and innovation.

Mary is also a disaster researcher, educator, and practitioner. Her research and international development work investigate the impact of future disasters and climate on society to design equitable policies and risk reduction investments. In 2023, Mary held a fellowship at NYU’s This is Not A Drill climate program, where she exhibited work on the role of individuals in future climates.

Mary received her Master’s from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and a Master’s and Ph.D. in engineering from Stanford University.
