Pop Up Window Displays

Gabe Barcia-Colombo

In New York City, every storefront window has the possibility to tell a story, spark a
conversation or inspire an interaction. This workshop will focus on creating innovative
interactive pop up installations designed for public window displays. A successful
window is one that clearly delivers a message directly to the public. How do we create
interactive displays that engage the public with a distinctive voice or style? Over seven
weeks, students will concept, prototype and build an interactive experience meant to
be installed in a storefront or commercial display. This course will explore lighting,
design, and budgeting of durable interactive window installations. Previous fabrication
or programming experience is encouraged.
