Daily Practice – day 2

I shift the topic to odor. From today I’ll find the odor and draw it.

Today’s odor comes from osmanthus(桂花). The smell of osmanthus fills the streets during this season in China.

When I was drawing it, I noticed that its flowers were clustered but also sparsed.

I’m curious about from which part the smell comes. Petals or stamens?  I should try to figure it out tomorrow!

(Not good at drawing. It’s colored by PS. But fun too.)

  1. Drawing is such a wonderful way of slowing down the eye – which allows for a different kind of investigation.

Your daily practice brings to mind synesthesia ( when you experience one sense in conjunction with another such as seeing sound as color).

  2. I love this idea of exploring scent by drawing the thing that creates that smell. I’m reminded of scented markers that I used to have when I was a child, like this: https://www.mrsketch.com. It may be cool to infuse the drawings with the scent that you’re capturing somehow!

I also find it really interesting that you drew the image by hand, but then colored it with PS – it gives a really interesting effect that I think would be difficult to achieve without using both a mix of digital and analog.
