Mentor Meeting Reflection: w/ Cezar Mocan

Had the first meeting with my mentor Cezar, got super helpful feedback during the last meeting and really appreciate him pushing me to go further. It is so interesting to have the mentor who is an artist and programmer interested in the relationship between the natural landscape and technology based in Lisbon, and had a different perspective from him.

Cezar encouraged me to experiment with different types of audience responses rather than fear, and explore what’s could be other options to get the audience to think critically about FER. We also talked about Sam Lavigne and Adam Harvey to imagine how can I use a “silly”(humor) way/tone to point out the problem.

As for the prediction report, Cezar shows his interest and think it is the key to the whole project, he encouraged me to think more about the content and showed me his collaborative NFT works with Ian Cheng(one of my favorite artists!) which will “reads your wallet’s public transaction history and infers the inner forces that compose your personality.”

Another suggestion he gave me is to talk to someone who works at these technology companies such as 4 Little Trees or uses their services, and interview them with some questions to have a deeper understanding of why FER is still being used. I will try to connect with someone this week if possible.

The last thing we talked about is the accuracy of the model and I started to think maybe can create a user guide to teach the audience how to act appropriately to get a higher score if I run into a bottleneck.

Beyond the Spectrum PROJECTOR PLAY with my art (04/01/2023) :)

Hey all!

Hope all is well!

Played around with my projector today for what honestly might’ve been all day haha! I played around with sound and some past and present artwork to see how this projector works! To my surprise this projector is the bomb! The quality is super nice and all the images are really crisp and clean! I also appreciate the fact that the color even on some hand drawn images remained in tact and not washed out! Here are some reflections I had from doing this!

-Forced me to think critically about my past and present art!

-GRAPHICS and TEXT! 🙂

-I saw my work up close and large which was new for me especially for the pieces that were smaller.

-Made me think a lot about presentation. How am I to present this to a public audience in a way that will grab their attention and keep them hooked?

-This projector play lasted for my goodness a while and played a crucial role in how I want people to experience and digest this thesis!

I had a lot of fun! I played a lot around with shadow, sound and size!

-Seeing my work close up and on a large scale made me notice things I didn’t before! In a way it forced me to stand, sit, listen, and absorb. It was almost hypnotic. I  used my phone to move and adjust what was seen on the projector!

-I  used audio as well to really get a feel for what this experience might be like for those who are more aware of Black History and for those who might not be.

-I hope by getting up close this forces the viewers and participants to experience Black History in a new light. I hope to create a new way to experience a gallery.

Until Next time! 🙂

User storyboard

From my last conversation with Sarah, she suggested that I created a user storyboard.

This shows the whole system of my project, and how the user’s photos are taken and displayed on my social media website.

After Full Class #3

The workshops were really helpful. My group was Jun, Zoe, and Zaida. They helped me focus in on one path to follow instead of being torn between two and encouraged me to focus on whatever aspects make me excited to do the project. I think I’m going to focus in on what makes big tech platforms more boring over time. Then, I’ll address some of those issues through my site design.

Also the end peer session was helpful. My computer died but up until then it was useful to sort out my production schedule and prototype 👍
