PopTop Portfolio

A next-generation portfolio.

PopTop Portfolio (PTP) is a digital showcase of an artist's work. This prototype is designed to improve upon a photographer's portfolio. Conventionally, photographers assemble their portfolio by making a book of high-quality prints of their work. PTP improves upon the photographer's book by providing greater control over his or her work while retaining all of the important features of a conventional portfolio.

This version of PTP is made from an iBook laptop. The cover has been customized with a mahogany pattern, reminiscent of the faux-wood bound portfolios popular with fashion photographers not too long ago. The keyboard has been removed and the space left behind is repurposed as a card holder. Upon opening the PTP, the viewer has access to only the images of the portfolio contents. The viewer navigates using the trackpad. Clicking anywhere on the right part of the screen will advance and on the left part will return to the previous image. The mouse pointer will change to left or right arrows when in the corresponding zones. PTP is easy to use for the artist or viewer.

Presenting the photographer's work digitally makes it easy to manage the portfolio contents and cuts down on printing costs. In addition, the PopTop Portfolio improves the security of the conventional portfolio by making it much more difficult for the viewer to remove work and/or reproduce it without permission
