Toward a new interpretation and medium

This project is to create a work of art which can give audiences the experience of finding the layers of human existence hidden in space.

This project is a work of interactive art that aims to combine the picture with the moving image. It seems to be a big photograph of a white wall. However, when an audience approaches it, fingerprints on wall start appearing gradually. The fingerprint is a metaphor for people who were there. Through the work, the audience can find the layers of human existence hidden in space.

Over the past decade, the digital images, which have been developed by the digital technologies to record, manipulate and store images, have changed the visual culture. However, the photography is still important because photographs are more memorable than moving images as Susan Sontag mentions. I’d like to explore how I can utilize the photographic advantage and combine the picture with the moving image to create a new medium fit for the digital era.

People who are interested in art.

A picture of a white wall will be put on the wooden board embedded with acrylic plates where fingerprints will be etched. LEDs placed behind the board will light the etchings and the fingerprints will be able to be seen through the picture. A sensor operated by microcontrollers will decide when the LED will turn on.
