MechPet is a series of semi-autonomous androids that explore the human/machine interaction. These androids serve as tools for remote human connection while interacting with their environment.
Description
Since the 1700s', scientists, designers and engineers had try out all sorts of things in order to create useful machines. Unlike screen-based tools including computers and phones, social robot that interact and communicate with humans are still out of reach for the common user. The MechPet project is a series of prototypes that attempt to makes the idea of social robotics accessible and acceptable to more people. Beecho, the first prototype, is a robotic pet used to study the development of emotional relationships between humans and machines. To generate emotional connection, Beecho behaviors are set remotely by a distant loved one. Beecho operates as a representation of a loved person, while it reacts and responds to its local environment.
