Description

What does it sound like to be close to other people?

While we communicate instantly with people half way around the world via mobile social networks, we rarely know anything about the person sitting next to us on the subway.

dist/dans is a mobile app that turns phones into ibeacons which can sense its proximity to each other.

When one person gets close to another, they hear their sound avatars played on each other's phones. Each user can alter their distinct sound avatar by using the gyroscope. They can save other people's sounds to play them back later when they feel alone.

Each avatar's sound is a remix of real mobile/social media notifications. dist/dans turns these notifications into a collaborative, interactive music experience.
