Description
This is a funded project. Funding is provided by IPG Media Lab, as our team has won the Connected Cars Challenge, its inaugural ITP Challenge.
We are building a seamless dash concept to reinvent drivers’ and passengers’ experience on the road. A high-luminosity projector is placed adjacent to where the firewall normally would be on a conventional front-engine car. This seamless projected dash concept allows us to achieve several vital design goals to better the driver and passenger experience. This serves as a tool for environmentally predictive features. Additionally, the seamless dash allows for much larger menu real estate than you would traditionally have with an LCD screen, Heads Up Display, or even an analog button system.
The Limitless Dash allows for persistent menus that do not change and therefore allow the driver to memorize the location of his or her favorite features. This replicates the upside of a conventional button or knob system, by not requiring the driver to navigate challenging app-based menus. This new very high resolution format will also permit a much more refined design than today’s clunky touchscreen menus, where subtlety often takes a back seat to confusing or blocky experiences.
We will be incorporating separate but integrated touch screen devices into the design as well. Preference is given to larger devices with more accurate and reliable click-targeting capabilities.
This seamless projected dash concept allows us to achieve several vital the three core concepts to better the driver and passenger experience, while simultaneously improving the existing landscape for media brands oriented towards the automotive ecosystem. The three core concepts are Contextual Awareness, Customization Through Machine Learning, and Smarter Entertainment.
